Due to the great weather of central Pennsylvania, I sadly was not able to attend or cover either of the Hearthstone matches last week. However, SFU White continued to impress even without me there. Their domination of Sacred Heart University left the Red Flash with a 3-0 record. This week they faced their toughest challenge, the University of Delaware Blue Hens Academy. The Blue Hens are known as one of the best teams in ECAC Hearthstone this year and it showed against the Red Flash. In an off night for the White Team, they were shut out 3-0 by the Hens.
Game One (1) – Lost
Red Flash Pure Paladin v. Blue Hens Hunter
There is a common excuse many video game players use that states that RNG is the reason for losing. This excuse is usually used instead of accepting responsibility for the loss; however, in this first match of the night, the Red Flash undeniably had some of the worst Hearthstone RNG I have ever encountered. The matchup was great for them, but within a few turns, it was clear they were not going to win the game. The White Team was forced to sit back and watch the Blue Hens fill the board with minions without having any playable cards. Already in a massive disadvantage, it would have been almost impossible for the Red Flash to come back and they quickly lost the game. This put the series at 0-1 in favor of Delaware.
Game Two (2) – Lost
Red Flash Paladin v. Blue Hens Warlock
For the second game, Jared "Dedzo" Ohler stayed in, thinking that his bad luck would wear off after the first game; he was sadly mistaken. Again, the Red Flash were forced into a bad position right away due to a horrible starting hand. Even though this was statistically a good matchup for the White Team, fate was not on their side. They went down early, and though sheer willpower, they were able to even out the game after a few turns. The game would go back and forth for a few more turns, but SFU eventually ran out of steam and could not fight the uphill battle anymore. They dropped the game and went down 0-2 in the series.
Game Three (3) – Lost
Red Flash Warlock v. Blue Hens Paladin
After having two games with supernatural misfortune, Ohler subbed out and allowed James "Joker" Nichols to come into the game. SFU hoped that James would be able to change the momentum and get the team back on track. The bad luck seemed to have disappeared as SFU started the game off in a much better position. This game would be a test of the team's determination to win. Early on, the White Team was able to fill the board up with minions, trying to impose their will and earn their respect from the Blue Hens. In the next few turns, Delaware was able to clear the board and take 10hp away from Saint Francis. This, again, put SFU at a massive disadvantage and they were unable to overcome it, eventually losing the series 0-3.
The Hearthstone White Team plays again next Thursday at 8:00pm. Although this was an off week for them, they look to bring back their star power from the first two weeks and stay at the top of the league.
