SFU Battles Florida Atlantic to Improve Record

On Wednesday, November 3rd, the Saint Francis University Overwatch team met in the Esports arena to take on Florida Atlantic University (FAU). Prior to this match, the Flash had a record of two wins and 3 losses. The Overwatch team was hopeful they could improve their record with their best efforts. The game was set to begin at 8pm EST.

Game one was chosen to be played in Lijiang tower, specifically the night market.

The starting lineup was as follows:

Ozoneneutral as McCree

Cherry as Reinhardt

Chieftain as Pharah

Vespid as D. Va

Emariii as Baptiste

Cicada as Lucio

Round one of game one started off with zest as both teams rushed out of the gates and immediately engaged in a fierce fight on the point. FAU initially took point, earning the first point before SFU could earn any stake at all. SFU did not let this affect their mental state as they knew they could still make a come-back! Round two of game one began similarly with both teams full of gusto, racing to the point to engage in the first fight of the round. With a sense of deja-vu, FAU once again took the initial point, earning complete control and thus, winning round two. This meant Florida Atlantic had won game one by winning two of the possible three rounds.

For game two, SFU chose to play the game in Rialto. Team Captain Cicada also subbed JimJam in for Chieftain. The starting lineup included:

Ozoneneutral as Hanzo

Cherry as Reinhardt

JimJam as Ashe

Vespid as D. Va

Emariii as Mercy

Cicada as Lucio

Round one of game two began with SFU playing offense. This meant their mission for the round was to keep at least one player on the payload at all times to keep it moving forward on its track. They would attempt to escort the payload the entire length of the track as fast as possible. SFU, historically, had great success with this game mode. If they could win the match, it would even the score between the teams. SFU ended the round with two minutes and fifteen seconds remaining to escort the payload. SFU then took on the defensive role in round two of game two. FAU's best efforts were simply not enough to overcome SFU's speciality. FAU was only able to escort the payload to the first checkpoint and no further. Play of the game was rightfully awarded to Cherry for an astounding triple kill with one swift movement.

Game three was chosen to be played in Volskaya industries by FAU. Once again JimJam and Chieftain switched positions. The starting line-up was as follows:

Ozoneneutral as Hanzo

Cherry as Reinhardt

Chieftain as Pharah

Vespid as D. Va

Emariii as Baptiste

Cicada as Lucio

Round one of game three began with SFU playing offense. SFU captured the first objective with over three minutes to spare. This meant the team had over six minutes to capture the second. SFU, once again, was successful with only three minutes and fifty seconds to spare. It was then time for SFU to defend the objectives. Because FAU was able to capture both objectives a third round was necessary. SFU had three minutes and nine seconds compared to FAU's two minutes. In round three, FAU began in the offensive position and SFU in the defensive. Florida Atlntic was able to capture objective A and was only able to capture objective B in overtime. Then, in round four of game three, SFU needed to capture both objectives as well to take a lead on FAU. FAU's defense was well orchestrated and did not allow SFU to complete their mission. Therefore, the overall score of the game was now SFU with 1 and FAU with 2.

In game four, SFU chose to play in King's Row. Once again Chieftain and JimJam switched positions leaving the starting lineup as follows:

Ozoneneutral as Hanzo

Cherry as Reinhardt

Chieftain as Reaper

Vespid as D. Va

Emariii as Baptiste

Cicada as Lucio

Round one of game four started off with SFU on offense. The team charged right out of the gate to capture the objective, which was swifty accomplished. The team was then responsible for escorting the payload along its track. In the four allotted minutes, the team pushed the payload 60.65 m. With SFU now on defense, it would be ideal for them to prevent FAU from capturing the objective so they could not advance onto the payload. However, FAU put up a hard fight and won the overall match.

Stay tuned next week to see if the Overwatch team can improve their record by winning their match against Suny Poly.
