The Red Squad does it again as it defeats Arcadia University's Scarlet Knights who are newcomers to the ECAC Esports League. SFU had a challenge facing a team that no one has ever played before, but SFU came together and pulled through with a victory and reached a 2-0 record.
Game 1 Hero Choices:
Cherry – Reinhardt
Cicada – Zarya
Passione - Ashe
Cheiftan – Tracer
Emariiii – Moira
Frost – Mercy
Game one's round one began with a single point control map. Arcadia quickly took control of the point first, but SFU quickly pushed in and gained control. Arcadia's second push into the point was smothered at first, but Arcadia managed to gain the point and keep control for a while. SFU was running out of time, but with a triple elimination by Cicada and a timely revive by Frost, SFU was able to take round one.
Round two opened with another single point control map. Again, Arcadia made first contact and control of the point and forced SFU to regroup. Following the regroup, SFU was able to gain control of the point, but not for long. Cicada made the decision to switch to Wrecking Ball to attempt to win the round in overtime, but Arcadia is able to keep the point and take round two.
Round three would determine who would take the first game. For the third time, Arcadia is able to take the point early and keep control for the majority of the round. Seconds before Arcadia would walk away with the win, SFU was able to take the point with the help of a 10 player elimination streak from Cicada. Even with this effort, Arcadia takes the point back and win the round along with the game.
Game 2 Hero Choices:
Cherry – Reinhardt
Cicada – Zarya
Cheiftan – Tracer
Passione - Ashe
Frost – Mercy
Emariiii – Moira
Game two was an escort map. SFU was designated to push the payload across the map with Arcadia attempting to keep that from happening. In this round, SFU was able to make necessary adjustments to push the payload quickly through the first two checkpoints. SFU's support players, Frost and Emariii, were able to effectively heal their entire team to keep SFU's assault moving and forcing Arcadia to continually move back away from the payload. SFU took round one with a swift, continuing assault.
Round 2 Hero Choices:
Cherry – Reinhardt
Cicada – Zarya
Passione - Ashe
Cheiftan – Tracer
Frost – Ana
Emariii – Mercy
Going into round two, SFU was defending against Arcadia's attempts to push the payload across the map. Overall, SFU is able to keep Arcadia from making an effective push. SFu is able to keep Arcadia from even reaching the first checkpoint with the help of a 15 player elimination streak from Cherry. SFU took round two of game two and leave the match tied at 1-1.
Game 3 Hero Choices:
Cherry - Reinhardt
Cicada – Zarya
Chieftain – Junk
Passione - Ashe
Emariii – Mercy
Frost – Ana
Game three was a two-point control point map and in round one SFU was defending the points. Arcadia is able to make a swift attack on the first control point, and SFU quickly ran to the second control point. SFU quickly adapted to Arcadia's assault on the second control point and was able to come out with a win on round one.
In round two the roles were switched. Arguably, SFU's specialty is attacking and this round proved that point. At first, Arcadia was able to keep hold of the first point but SFU made some quick adjustments and were able to take the first point. The second point was highly contested from the start but again SFU is able to adjust their attack based on Arcadia's defensive positioning and take round two and game three.
Game 4 Hero Choices:
Cherry - Reinhardt
Cicada – Zarya
Cheiftan – Junk
Passione - Ashe
Emariii – Mercy
Frost – Ana
Game four was a hybrid map, meaning the attacking team would try to gain control of a point then escort a payload to another part of the map. SFU was defending the point first in round one. Arcadia made a number of strong offensive pushes, but SFU's experience and teamwork showed and they were able to take the round.
SFU was now in the attacking position in round two. Arcadia needed to win this round in order to keep SFU from winning the match. Overall, SFU's experience with attacking and their communication ultimately pushed them ahead of Arcadia and improved to 2-0 on the season.
SFU will play next Wednesday in the hopes of continuing their winning streak. The Red team will be streamed next week on Facebook, Twitch, and YouTube.
