On Wednesday, October 13th, the Overwatch team met in the esports arena located in the JFK student center. It was then that they would take on Missouri Western State University. The starting line-up included:
Vespid as D.Va
Cicada as Lucio
Emariii as Baptiste
Ozoneneutral as McCree
Cherry as Reinhardt
Chieftain as Symmetra
Game one was chosen to be played in Lijiang Tower by SFU. The match started on a great note when SFU won the first fight with ease. SFU gained 15% control of the point before the second fight began. This battle did not last long due to Chieftain's impressive double kill which caused them to retreat. The third battle consisted of Ozoneneutral using his ultimate to prevent the other team from engaging on the point. After SFU gained 99% control of the point, MWSU used all of their ultimates at once to keep SFU from the win. Then when the scores were even, both teams only needing the last 1%, Vespid used his ultimate to gain control of the point and win the round. Round two also began with SFU taking control of the point. However, after reaching 99% control SFU was defeated in round 2 by MWSU. This unfortunate narrative was soon relived as the same events transpired in round 3.
Game two was chosen again by SFU, this time played in Havana. The starting line-up included:
Vespid as Sigma
Cicada as Briggitte
Emariii as Baptiste
Ozoneneutral as Honzo
Cherry as Orisa
Jimjam as Soldier 76
The RedFlash chose to play on defense first. MWSU pushed the payload nearly to the first checkpoint before being stopped by SFU. It wasn't until overtime of round one that MWSU was able to overcome the first checkpoint. The rest of the match consisted of a long back and forth single pick battle until they reached the final destination in overtime. Round 2 left Saint Francis on offense, at this moment the team chose to play a more relaxed style. Although the strategy did not make for a dazzling performance, it was rather effective. SFU reached the first checkpoint in overtime thanks to a triple kill by JimJam. SFU also reached the final destination; however, this time with 5 seconds remaining. Giving them a short advantage in the third round. MWSU was less than successful as they were unable to reach the first checkpoint, even after overtime. In the fourth round SFU is able to take a victory of their own, of course in overtime.
Game three was chosen to be played in Volskaya Industries by Missouri Western State. The starting line-up included:
Vespid as Zarya
Cicada as Briggitte
Emariii as Ana
Ozoneneutral as Ashe
Cherry as Winston
Chieftain as Tracer
Off to a rough start MWSU took first point in the first fight. Fitting with the theme of the night, there was a long back and forth battle. Overall, this didn't accomplish much for anyone. This continued as Saint Francis attempted to run the clock down and waste time. However, MWSU did take another point, you guessed it, in overtime. The next round held yet another similar tale. SFU used some ultimate abilities to earn another point leaving the score 1-2. At this point the energy in the arena was thriving as the excited yelps from the team could even be heard over the Twitch stream. The team fought for another point consistently but MWSU was able to hold them off until overtime when the team forced through to earn another point. In round 3 Missouri West earned a third point thus putting the ball in SFU's court. SFU sadly failed to return making MWSU the overall winners of game three.
Game four was chosen by SFU to be played in King's Row. The starting line-up included:
Vespid as Sigma
Cicada as Lucio
Emariii as Baptiste
Ozoneneutral as Mei
Cherry as Reinhardt
JimJam as Ashe
SFU started game four on defense. The first fight began right out of the gate which was quickly lost by the RedFlash allowing MWSU to unlock the point. Not long after Cherry had an amazing random pick which caused a lot of excitement in the arena. Throughout the first round MWSU earned 3 points before turning offense over to the Red Flash. It took SFU under one minute to capture the point, thus leaving them over five and a half minutes to escort the payload. The team was successful in their mission leaving MWSU with 1 minute in the third round and SFU with two minutes and thirteen seconds. Missouri West was unsuccessful in unlocking the point, this left SFU very confident that they could even the score. However, the round ended in a draw. By now it is expected that every round will go into overtime and end with a tie meaning more rounds are necessary. This pattern continued into game five.
Game five was chosen to be played in Oasis by MWSU. The starting line-up included:
Vespid as D. Va
Cicada as Lucio
Emariii as Baptiste
Ozoneneutral as McCree
Cherry as Reinhardt
Chieftain as Symmetra
SFU took the initial lead on the point earning 95% before MWSU earned any at all. In typical fashion of this incredibly long game, round 1 went into overtime when it was finally won by MWSU at 99-100. Round two had Saint Francis feeling the pressure. SFu took a small lead by earning 20%, until Missouri took back the point. The arena grew tense as Missouri West neared another 100% which would end the match. This unfortunately would ultimately be the fate of Saint Francis.
Join us next week as we take on New York Tech in the Esports arena at 8pm EST.
