On September 30, 2020, the SFU Overwatch White team kicked off their season in a match against Thomas College (Waterville, ME). The two teams played online from their respective schools with our Overwatch White Team playing from the SFU Esports arena, the only facility of its kind in our region.
The game finished with a final score of 3-0, with Thomas college taking home the win. The teams played 3 games before Thomas took the match.
The first game was played in Lijiang Tower which is a control point objective, in which the Red Flash played a good fight and were able to take round two. Between rounds two (2) and three (3) Thomas College players had to participate in a fire drill, which resulted in consecutive use of their three (3) pauses. The second game was played on Junkertown where the teams raced to escort the payload. In the first round the Red Flash made it to the second checkpoint. However, Thomas College was able to surpass our White team's distance. The final game was played on Hanamura, an assault map, where Thomas College ultimately won the match.
This was the SFU Overwatch White team's first appearance as a team. Composed of entirely new members aside from the team captain, Matt (Requiem) Tran. Matt described that despite the overall loss he was proud of his team, "We are building a team from scratch playing against bigger schools with more experience. We aren't perfect but [we] have the foundation". Matt is looking forward to future matches and hopes to focus specifically on building his team's confidence and their ability to call plays to each other.
The Saint Francis Overwatch White team will load up again on Wednesday, October 7, 2020 at 8:00 PM EST.
