SFU White Takes on WSC Gold

Red Flash Overwatch White Squad Vs. Wayne State College Wildcats Gold

The SFU Overwatch White Squad reconvened on Wednesday October 21st, 2020 at the Esports Arena in the JFK Student Center. Five of the team's six members played in the arena while one member, Freshman Chase Forberger, played remotely. In previous matches the team felt more prepared when planning out their decisions before the match, so they continued this habit. The team evaluated which maps they felt most comfortable and which maps they felt they struggle with more often. Unlike previous matches this faceoff began at 9pm due to scheduling conflicts at Wayne State College.

Starting lineup for the White squad on Wednesday:
(Tank) (C) Requiem – Zarya
(Tank) Chazz – Roadhog
(Damage) Volleyballer – Symmetra
(Damage) NaturedHalo – Ashe
(Support) Perogi69 – Lucio
(Support) Atlas – Mercy

The first game was played in Ilios, a control objective map. Round one was quickly given to the Wildcats who captured 100% of the objective without allowing the Red Flash a single percentage point. Upon starting round 2, damage players Volleyballer and NaturedHalo switched heroes to Junkrat and Reaper respectively. Team captain Requiem converted to Reinhardt, while Chazz took on the role of Zarya. Round 2 was a great come back for SFU; completely flipping the script capturing 100% of the objective without allowing WSC a single percentage point. Thus, leaving game one in a 1-1 tie; causing high tensions. The Wildcats captured 25% of the objective, causing SFU to strike back. The objective was captured by both teams back and forth. Round 3 resulted with SFU having 30% compared to WSC's 100%. Ultimately, giving the game to the Wildcats.

Game two was played in Dorado, where both teams must escort the payload as far as they can. In round 1 SFU was on the offensive. Tank player, Chazz, changed his hero to D.Va. Damage player, NaturedHalo, reverted back to his starting hero, Ashe. SFU was able to reach the first checkpoint; this was a huge relief for the team which left them with 3 minutes to reach the second check point. The Red Flash successfully reached the second checkpoint with 15 seconds to spare. This left the team feeling accomplished and with 1 minute 45 seconds to reach the final checkpoint. The team was successful in this mission escorting the payload all the way with 35 seconds to spare. The Gold Wildcats were able to push the escort to all 3 check points 29 seconds faster than SFU; leaving WSC with an advantage in round 3. In round 3 the Red Flash escorted the payload 10.27m.  WSC overcame this distance in 31 seconds earning themselves victory in game two.

Game three was SFU's last attempt for victory in this match. The pressure was on in Temple of Anubis where the teams would face off in the assault objective. Damage player, NaturedHalo, switched his hero to Pharah. The White squad started in the offensive position, but they weren't able to win the team fight. WSC won game three in about 1 minute.

Having won three games Wayne State College Gold team gained victory of Saint Francis University White squad. Although having lost another match the White squad is showing drastic improvements.

Stay tuned for next week when SFU meets in the arena once again.
